OUR STORY
In 2020, amidst a pandemic, as society reeled from the ills of racial injustice, several influential leaders rallied into action to be the difference they desired to see in the world.
The Fund is a unified group of Houston leaders dedicated to accelerating transformative change by supporting under-resourced Houston nonprofits and small businesses that empower and uplift the Black community.
GENERAL WHY
- Wealth and income are closely linked to overall quality of life
- Black households in Houston’s three most populous counties earn 50% less per year than White residents
- Economic gaps create barriers in accessing safe housing, high-quality education, health care, social justice and other tools for opportunity
- 26% of Black residents have a Bachelor’s degree or higher compared to 47% of White Houstonians

The Fund is committed to taking actions that encourage equitable systems of change within our communities. We select and fund organizations closely aligned to our four core focus areas:
ADDITIONAL STATITISTICS
- Houston is one of the five most economically segregated cities in the United States
- Black households in Houston’s three most populous counties earn 50% less per year than White residents
- Black people account for less than 8% of core IT workers in the U.S.
- 26% of Black residents have a Bachelor’s degree or higher compared to 47% of White Houstonians
- Less than 2% of Houston’s philanthropic dollars go to cultural institutions of color
