Our organization was honored to be a recipient of the Verizon ``Upgrade It!" Grant administered through HFFSJEE! We are extremely grateful that these funds were made available to assist us with our program for 2022 "The Shift". We are hosting a conference in September 2022 that addresses lifestyle changes that help improve financial, mental, and physical health. Verizon "Upgrade It!" Grant funds we received help offset our costs of printing, upgrading our website, and purchasing materials for our Conference training sessions. Thank you so much and we look forward to sharing more results with you as they develop.
The Verizon ``Upgrade It!” Grant has impacted DBA UHPhealth, Inc. (United Health Partners) since receiving the funds. Social & Racial Justice is the pillar, lack of or poor healthcare access and health inequities are a barrier. Simply put if you’re too sick or unhealthy, that’s a barrier to employment and hindrance to closing economic gaps. We aim to help youth gain coping and learn hope skills. Due to recent events in the last few years, the transitional age Black and Latin youth’s mental health and hope has been tested, stretched and even broken. We're thankful to have increased our support of teens 15-19 who are struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, the effects of relationship difficulties with family/friends, anger management, pregnancy and/or parenting. Teen Talk is our bi-weekly group sessions currently 16–19-year old’s are attending. The 15–17-year old's individual therapy 3 days per week. Providing teens with outpatient behavioral/mental health and their families who are uninsured is where the funds are directed. In the wake of what happened in Uvalde, Texas we have extended the original plan to include 12-14 group classes and individual therapy 5 days per week. These funds enable us to mold, strengthen and have healing take place for a special summer focus.
I want to say THANK YOU for choosing our organization as one of the recipients of this amazing grant. Since receiving this grant, we have been able to assist more impoverished families with utility and rental assistance. We have been able to continue to feed the homeless community and have helped at least 5 domestic violence victims with temporary housing once they escaped their abuser. We have implemented an amount of the grant to bring in counselors to help our Domestic Violence victims as they start their journey to recovery. Keep Moving Ministries really appreciates you all for hearing our vision and being willing to help us continue to impact the citizens of a community that may feel forgotten about.
We are looking forward to having our Houston Equity Fund- Financial Literacy Training Event on October 1st, 2022. We are currently in the planning stage for the event, i.e booking a professional trainer, and securing other resources that we will need to execute the event project. I shall keep you posted on the key milestones we will be covering until the event date.
Thank you again for the opportunity to participate in the Verizon Grant program. It was a huge blessing for our organization. Not only was the information very helpful but also the funding. Under the Youth Empowerment and Education pillar, REFRESH will execute its support of a Teenage Moms Retreat. This powerful retreat will focus on mental wellness, financial literacy, and legacy setting so that these mothers are equipped to chart a new trajectory for both themselves and the lives of their children. We envision that this implementation will impact 15-20 moms directly and have an indirect impact on approximately 18-24 children. Thank you does not adequately capture the difference that you all have made in the service reach of our organization. We are grateful. Thank you again for excellence in execution of the program. It was a blessing.
